ON THE RISE

Playing with his five friends James formed a team “Northeast Ohio Shooting Stars” the team was under the guidance Joyce’s father. The team made its presence felt on the national scene in 1997 after the team qualified for the Under/6th Grade AAU. National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Shooting Stars won their first five games to set up a showdown with the Southern California All-Stars.

AAU Under/8th Grade final, in Orlando, Florida. The team gave a good show in the first five games. Soon enough the team was a matter of pride for the city of Akron.

After some time LeBron, Joyce, Cotton and McGee again formed a team "Fab Four". The foursome settled on Saint Vincent-Saint Mary High School, a school in Akron.

The team after some time was under the guidance of Drambot who taught the team the fundaments of the game, thus further developing more understanding among the players. James was the hardest working in the team and at a given time could play on all five positions. The other major factor which helped him was his height, he was six feet tall and had a sixth sense for the game. At the end of the season the James was a more experienced players with all the skills and expertise.

By the end of the season James had gained more height and was nearly 6-7. By the time the new season started in 2000-2001, the star was a huge crowd puller and the school knew that they had a bona fide phenom on its hands. The first game drew more than 5, 000 audience. LeBron paced SVSM to an easy victory, and the team rolled from there. King managed to post a good average, for that season he averaged 25.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 5.5 assists. He was also named an All-American and this made LeBron became the first sophomore in Ohio history to be voted the state’s Mr. Basketball.
